The Ongoing Journey of Becoming
Becoming is not a moment. It's not a milestone. It's not a single breakthrough that suddenly makes everything clear. Becoming is a process — a living, breathing journey that unfolds one step, one lesson, one stretch at a time.

In my book Become: Hidden Treasures in Earthen Vessels, I describe this journey as one filled with ups and downs, high peaks and deep valleys, unexpected turns and rough bumps that shake you awake. It is anything but straightforward. And yet, the more I walk this path of intentional, purposeful, and authentic living, the more I realize that every step — even the painful ones — is shaping me for the next level.
This journey has not been easy. It is still ongoing. But with every season, I discover more of the treasure hidden within me. And along the way, a few truths have anchored me. I'm sharing them with you in the hope that they will strengthen your own journey of becoming.
1. Cheer for Yourself — Loudly and Consistently
Your journey is uniquely yours. That means you will walk alone more often than you expect. Growth has a way of pulling you into solitude — not as punishment, but as preparation. There are seasons where you must retreat, confront yourself, shed old versions of who you were, and stand alone in the refining fire.
Others cannot fully understand the weight you carry or the battles you fight, that's why you must learn to be your own cheerleader. People often applaud visible success, but overlook the deeper success: the person you are becoming through the process.
Celebrate your quiet victories. Honour your resilience. Clap for yourself when no one else does. Becoming requires it.
Growth has a way of pulling you into solitude as preparation for what is ahead."
2. Success Is Not Found in Achievements
If you measure your success only by what you accomplish, you will miss the most transformative part of your journey.
Achievements are wonderful, but they are not the true markers of growth. The real success lies in who you are becoming — even in the setbacks, even in the delays, even in the moments that feel like failure.
The process is your training ground.
The lessons are your shaping tools.
The becoming is the real reward.
Achievements mean very little if you cannot reproduce them in different circumstances. But character, clarity, and inner strength? Those travel with you everywhere.
3. No Lesson Is Ever Wasted
Every lesson — the good, the painful, the confusing, the unexpected — carries purpose. These lessons become the tools you use to navigate life's challenges. They sharpen your discernment, deepen your compassion, and strengthen your endurance.
Some experiences will feel unnecessary or unfair. You may wonder why certain things had to happen or what purpose they could possibly serve. But when you step into your next level, you begin to understand. The dots connect. The lessons reveal their value.
From my own journey, I can confidently say: nothing is wasted. Every lesson serves you — now or later.
A Final Reflection
Becoming is not a destination. It is a lifelong unfolding. A continuous invitation to rise, to stretch, to heal, to grow, and to discover the treasures hidden within you.
Your journey may not be easy. Mine hasn't been either. But it is worth it — every step, every lesson, every transformation.
Keep becoming.
Keep rising.
Keep uncovering the treasure within.
