The Lonely Path

19-10-2026

I've realised that truth isn't popular because it can be confrontational. We like the idea of truth, but don't want to face it. So we surround ourselves with people who tell us what we want to hear and avoid those bold enough to speak the truth. Some people also avoid telling the truth because they fear rejection or want to comply.

The path of truth is lonely. It's easier to follow the crowd and conform to popular opinion than to stand up for what's true. For a long time, I've been in this corner: knowing the truth but staying silent, hoping someone else, someone bold and eloquent, would take up the fight. But if we all stay silent and leave the battle to the few brave ones, how can truth prevail?

We are familiar with this popular saying: "Evil prevails when good is silent." Is that not what we have created and continue to create with our good intentions of conflict avoidance? Anyone who feels offended by the truth has issues, not the other way around. Obviously, how the truth is told matters; that's where wisdom comes in. We can't keep following a path of conformity and conflict avoidance and expect things to change.

Change must start with us: breaking the silence and being willing to pay the price. It's a lonely path, one that might separate us from our loved ones. It's a heavy price. However, is the price heavier than the alternative? The alternative of deception and lies? Look at society now. What happened to the truth? What happened to decency and respect? What happened to morals and principles? Is that the price we are willing to pay for generations to come?
